About

Janelle Reid

Sometimes our experiences impact our thoughts, feelings and behaviours. Without realizing we begin to form patterns of repetitive thoughts feelings or behaviours that serve us in overcoming a similar experience. As human beings, we find ways to cope with our experiences but sometimes they may not be healthy for our emotional well-being.  Stay Balanced helps you to find healthy ways of coping with your experiences so you can keep moving forward on the beautiful journey of life.

Experience

Counselling and Psychotherapy

My experience in counselling has allowed me the opportunity to work with children, adolescents, adults and families. An individualized treatment plan is developed to suit the specific needs of my clients through the use of an integrated approach to counselling using cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), family systems therapy, experiential therapy and eye movement desensitization reprocessing (EMDR).

My areas of expertise include depressive disorders, anxiety disorders, addiction disorder and chemical dependency, adjustment disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder, grief and loss and post-traumatic stress disorder.

Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR). EMDR is a form of psychotherapy designed to relieve the stress associated with traumatic memories. The goal of EMDR therapy is to reformulate negative beliefs associated with trauma, allowing clients to feel better about their past experiences and themselves. I am also trained in other areas  in EMDR which includes EMDR and Play as well as EMDR and Dissociation.  I recommend EMDR  particularly when counselling clients for trauma, complex trauma and trauma related disorders.

I individualize each client’s treatment plan based on their specific needs. She has had the opportunity to work with children, adolescents, families, couples and individuals. Janelle’s experience includes but is not limited to out-patient community counselling services to individuals and groups coping with trauma, grief and loss, bipolar disorder, depression, anxiety, substance use disorders, and obsessive compulsive disorder. She also works in an educational institution as the school counsellor and site supervisor for internship and practicum students in the mental health field. Most recently, she has partnered with some organizations offering an Employee Assistance Program to enhance the well-being for the employees of those organizations.
